No, not the athletic kind. I finished the Big Weaving Project of a Thanksgiving table runner. This was a stretch for me since I’ve never tried overshot weaving before. It sounded complicated (and the threading draft was downright scary), but the wonderful woman at the Yarn Barn, where I purchased the pattern, encouraged me and explained the process in a way that sounded doable. Here are a few shots of the process:
- Warp chains tied to breast beam (front of loom) and sleyed in the reed
- Close-up of threads sleyed in the reed (8/2 tencel, 2 per dent in a 12 dent reed)
- Threading the heddles
- Checking the tension at the front apron
- Correcting tension (the first picks of a heavy yarn reveal uneven tension)
- Weaving begun
- Done!

It’s beautiful! And you certainly seem to be having fun with the weaving. When do you find the time?

That looks incredibly complicated. I’m impressed! and the weaving is beautiful.

Amazingly, it wasn’t nearly as complicated as I had feared when I took it on. Threading the warp threads took the most time (it usually does) and a huge amount of attention. But once I got the hang of weaving two patterns (one extremely simple) at the same time, the weaving itself just sailed along. It was really fun!
